Alabama Hills Rockscape with Mt. Whitney, Eastern Sierra, CA

While staying in Lone Pine for botanical work on Owens Dry Lake, I would repeatedly head into the Alabama Hills for sunrise photography. On this particular fall morning, I found a great spot where the rocks appeared to be emerging from the depths of the earth right below Mt Whitney, the highest point in the continental U.S. As I set up my Fuji 617 panorama film camera, the sun reflected warm light off the high cirrus clouds above, and the rocks took on an orange glow that lasted less than a minute. The granite texture on the rocks is well-suited for canvas prints of this image.
